Antimicrobial efficacy

IRM covers a large spectrum of analyses, in particular for the following fields:

AFNOR standards
European standardization
Routine microbiological assessment
Airborne disinfectants trials
corrosion trials
And other trial protocols upon request.

Following are the main standards that we provide services for
• Suspension standards (for example NF EN 1276)
• Microorganism surface tests standards (NF EN 13697 among others)
• Standards in the fields of human or veterinary medicine (for example NF EN 1656 and 1657)
• Virological standards (NF T 72 180 and 181, NF EN 14476)
• Airborne disinfectants standards (NF T 72-281)
• Hand hygiene and disinfection:
- Evaluation of antimicrobial activity of antiseptics on transient flora on the hands of 15 volunteers: NF EN 1499 and NF EN 1500
• Preoperative hand disinfection: effects on the resident flora on the hands of 20 volunteers: NF EN 12791

AFNOR Standards (Association Française de NORmalisation)
The AFNOR NFT 72 standards were implemented more than 25 years ago.
French standards (in French)

European standardization
The CEN/TC 216 Technical Committee of the European Committee for Standardization has defined three project phases:

• Phase 1: Basic standards for distilled water suspension. These standards demonstrate activity in favourable conditions and allow for bactericidal, fungicidal or sporicidal qualification of the product.
• Phase 2: Application standards. These standards simulate anticipated practical conditions for the product’s use. Concerned fields are food and agro-industrials, human and veterinary medicine.
Phase 2 – Step 1: Suspension tests with simulated practical conditions.
Phase 2 – Step 2: Surface tests on steel for disinfectants and hands for antiseptics.
• Phase 3: Field trials. As of today, no phase 3 standards exist.
European Standards (currently in French)

Routine microbiological assessment
Assessment of product microbiological condition
Product microbial load
Identification of microorganisms
Assessment of antimicrobial efficacy for conservators according to the European Pharmacopoeia 5.1.3 (COFRAC)
Sterility assessment according to the European Pharmacopoeia

Airborne disinfectants trials (aerosols, fumigating compounds, etc.) in dedicated facility

Efficacy tests for diffuser/disinfectant couples according to standard NF T 72-281.
IRM has a dedicated 85m3 facility conceived exclusively for assessing this standard: no cold surfaces, surface/volume ratio of 1.5, perfectly airtight to allow for very long contact periods (maximum of 12 hours for the standard, more if needed) and an adjoining veranda for apparatus regulation and diffusion observation.
Our clients are invited to attend the trial and may participate in starting and regulating the diffuser before the test, if they so wish.

Corrosivity studies on medical/surgical instruments (NF S 94-402-1)

Studies on the corrosive action of decontaminating, cleaning, or disinfecting agents on reusable medical/surgical instruments: standard NF S 94-402-1.
IRM corrosion trials consist of exposing standard surgical instruments to the potentially corrosive agent in 50 immersion cycles, with accompanying control. The presence or absence of product corrosivity is established by micro and macro examination of alterations to the instruments as the trial progresses.

Specialization in hygiene audits for livestock research including microbiological study of aliments, litter and drinking water.

We will gladly study any other trial request; feel free to give us a call!
